Westlandian News Network can confirm that A.T. Phoenix intends to relaunch the Federal People's Party tomorrow under the new title of The Left Party - Di Linke. The party will be a continuation of the 3-year history of party politics in the Republic of Westland, which started with the Democratic Socialist Party and the Socialist Labour Party in May 2010. More details will be released as of the party's official launch tomorrow.
Today, with the aim of developing the Westlandian language into an element of national culture for our nation to be proud of, A.T. Phoenix announced the foundation of the Westlandian Language Institute. The Institute will have the job of regulating the language and encouraging it's use, as well as promoting the language to potential citizens and the micronational community. The Westlandian language has previously had no official standardization and has been solely the work of Ms. Phoenix, and the Institute will now be able to regulate changes and additions to the language. The Institute, which currently only has a single member, has already passed radical phonological and orthographical reforms and will surely have a very important position in the development of Westland's national language.
The Westlandian News Network can confirm, as of the closing of polls at midnight today, independent candidate Danny Clarke has been elected as the first President of the Delsh-Westlandian Federal Republic. In an election with exactly 50% turnout in both states, Clarke won with all three votes cast being in his favour. Meanwhile, A.T. Phoenix of the Federal People's Party was elected unopposed for the position of Westlandian First Minister and James Hunt was elected as Delsh First Minister. These three roles make up the as-yet unnamed legislature of the Delsh-Westlandian Federal Republic, and the distribution of ministerial roles within the new government is expected to take place over the coming days, as the government starts to deal with issues such as foreign affairs. This marks the third time Clarke has been elected as president of a nation having previously served as leader of the Dale Republic and of the Republic of New Dale before it joined the federation.
Today, Westlandian News Network can confirm the official list of candidates for the upcoming presidential and sub-federal elections in the Delsh-Westlandian Federal Republic. The elections are due to take place over the following two days, and candidates were required to submit their names before last nights' deadline. The following list contains all candidates running in the polls this weekend:
RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT OF THE DELSH-WESTLANDIAN FEDERAL REPUBLIC Danny Clarke (Independent, New Dale) A.T. Phoenix (Federal People's Party, Westland) RUNNING FOR FIRST MINISTER OF NEW DALE Danny Clarke (Independent) James Hunt (independent) RUNNING FOR FIRST MINISTER OF WESTLAND A.T. Phoenix (Federal People's Party) Today, Westlandian First Minister A.T. Phoenix has announced the foundation of the Federal People's Party, the first political party in the Delsh-Westlandian Federal Republic. The party is expected to adopt a relatively left-wing, socialist and federalist stance in political affairs, with emphasis expected to be placed in the advancement of the Westlandian and Delsh languages. It is expected to stand for positions in Westlandian regional elections and presidential elections, however it is unknown if it will run candidates in New Dale. Being the only current political party in the federation, it is expected to have some success at the polls, however as yet its chances of good results are hard to judge. The first chair of the Federal People's Party will be A.T. Phoenix, however as of yet we do not know who will stand in elections for the party.
As of 23:00 today, the dates of what will be momentous first elections in the Delsh-Westlandian Federal Republic have been agreed between the first ministers of New Dale and Westland. It has been confirmed that the federation will elect it's first president, as well as representatives of it's two constituent states, on the weekend of the 20th and 21st of July. It is not yet clear, however, who will be running for president of the new nation, however it is expected that former President Clarke of New Dale will run as an independent candidate. It is also doubted that any political parties will be started within New Dale, however it is expected at least one will be founded in Westland.
But these elections will not only be important for the new federation. They will also be the first free and fair elections ever held in the Republic of Westland, with the only previous elections, way back in May 2010, only allowing potential voters to choose from a single candidate, of the now disestablished Democratic Socialist Party. With the replacement of traditional paper ballots with a system run through a voting website, it will be far easier to confirm the legitimacy of these election Thus, the results of these elections will surely be anticipated more than ever in Westland, as well as in New Dale and the wider community. In order to confirm voting lists for the upcoming election, Westland will be holding a census this week. All citizens who wish to remain members of the nation will be required to fill out census forms, and census forms will also be given to any prospective citizens wishing to join the nation. The duration of the census will be from the 14th to the 16th of July, and presidential and first ministerial campaigns are expected to start after the conclusion of the census. As of yet, there is little idea of who will be taking these roles, and Westlandian News Network will be reporting on every twist and turn throughout the campaign.
Westland's new coat of arms
Today Westland has officially adopted a new flag and coat of arms, coinciding with it's entry into a federation with New Dale. The designs replace older designs which have been in official use in Westland for years, with the old flag being made shortly after Westland was founded back in 2010. The new designs, which are said to be more professionally designed than the previous ones, will enter into official usage today. The new coat of arms is based off that of the former USSR, and depicts a red star surrounded by a wreath of corn. The new flag takes inspiration from the flags of Macedonia and Imperial Japan, and was already used as a secondary flag. Whilst these changes are primarily aesthetic, they are also intended to help update the nation's image and help it shake off it's image of inactivity.
The coat of arms of the new federal republic
Today, at 13:41 GMT, Westland officially ratified a law approving political union with the Republic of New Dale, and finalized the foundation of the Delsh-Westlandian Federal Republic, a federation of the two micronations. A sudden development considering there was talk of disbanding the Republic of Westland in the past weeks, this union will hopefully help to develop the culture and politics of its member states, and is expected to catapult Westland out of the chronic internal inactivity it has experienced of most of it's history. Westland and New Dale, both based in southern England and both members of the Micronational Football Association, already have similar backgrounds, and it is therefore hoped that the similarities between the states will help bind the culture of the new federation. With elections to the federal government of the federation expected to be announced within days, there will certainly be no lack of internal activity in the new nation within the coming weeks. Meanwhile, members of the intermicronational community will no doubt be observing the progress and development of the new nation over the next few days and weeks. Long live the federation! Westland is in a state of deep crisis. There has been no meaningful activity whatsoever for almost a year, with the sole exception of the work of a couple of citizens in the development of the Westlandian language. There seems to be little, if any, interest in the nation by the vast majority of its people. The nation is effectively moribund. Furthermore, I see no further benefit in the nation continuing to operate as a territorial, secessionist micronation as it has done for the past three and a half years. The nation has done nothing meaningful in its current state, thus there would be no meaning in maintaining it. Tonight I will attempt to call a forum of our citizens, to see if any would be interested in an official debate on the future of our nation. However, if, as I expect, I get no reply, it seems I will be forced to take extra-ordinary action. I feel that for our nation to remain in territorial micronationalism, or for us to take no action against this at the first possible moment, would be condemning our nation to a slow, undignified death. Therefore, I feel we have two options. Either we disband the Republic it it's entirety, or we reform it as a simulationist micronation. Personally, I now believe that secessionist micronationalism is not the path for a serious micronation to take. I have for some time admired the work of the Micronational Cartography Society and their members, the organisation which runs Micras. If we can build activity, or find new citizens willing to play a part in our nation, I think aiming to join Micras would be a reasonable plan. However, I seriously doubt we will be able to drum up the necessary activity. I have recently been considering becoming a citizen of a specific established Micras nation (which I shall not name here), however it does appear that we may have to abandon Westland. I will be attempting to contact as many of you citizens as possible tonight, however, if I am unable to discuss any plan of action, I will have to take action myself, even if only to give our nation a respectable end.
